1st weekend of practicum at Burke

This weekend was my first days of practicum at Burke Mountain. first off we met up with Jack Savasta in the maintenance garage at 8 am on friday morning, we set up our schedule for the next 5 weekends. for this first weekend i chose terrain parks for my first department to explore. Terrain parks is my main focus when it comes to the ski industry, from fabrication of boxes and rails to the events aspect of it i cant get enough. After leaving the garage i met up with park manager Steve Mahone and park patrollers Connor Osullivan, and Steve Murry. I soon became familliar with the safety procedures of the park, and with the equipment used to maintain and preserve the park. There is alot more to building a park than most think. from keeping features distraction free, minimal ice, and have proper run ins and run outs. on the second day i used my newly learned skills to patrol the park as well as rake lips, jumps, and jibs. i also closed down the park with Steve Mahone park manager at 4 pm , this process took about an hour and a half to fully rake and repair the features after a days worth of abuse. all in all it was a great first weekend willed with new insight on the world of terrain parks.
